Company History

WASP was established in Wakefield over 35 years ago as a hockey stick manufacturer making our own wooden hockey sticks. There have been many changes in hockey since then, not least the introduction of the composite stick which saw WASP move away from wholesale stick production. We are still designing our own sticks and hockey bags with the help and expertise of Norman Hughes who was one of the founders of the company. Norman captained England to world cups and was part of the Great Britain team to win bronze at the 1984 Los Angeles  Olympics. 20 years ago we brought clothing into the business and we now supply embroider and print clothing ourselves on site for team kits, schools, work clothing and any other purpose people would like us to! Today Norman has semi retired but still travels all over Europe working with European hockey to bring the game he loves to more people, especially youngsters. In 2013 Norman's niece Fiona took over the running of WASP along with her husband Mel, they moved operations to Brigg in North Lincolnshire where they live with their two sons who love hockey too. We have always prided ourselves on being a small family run business who can offer the personal touch.
